One of the biggest economic trends that I’ve been paying attention to is expansion of the nine-to-five workday. Employees are getting paid the same salaries but the amount of hours they have to work is increasing. Last year, Gallup found that Americans work an average of 47 hours per week and 40% say they work at least 50 hours. In order to understand the implications of a longer workweek, my company was hired by Staples Advantage, the business to business division of Staples to partner on Staples Advantage Workplace Index, a new research study surveying 1,026 American workers and 1,074 Canadian workers.
